I like the title. Maybe something along the lines of what George Clooney, Brad Bitt and Matt Damon have done ...
They founded Not On Our Watch to focus attention on global humanitarian crisis: http://www.notonourwatchproject.org/ Maybe the idea could be adapted for TV: people helping others, an entire village making a stand against something, etc.
This is what Margo Carmichael-Grimshaw - licensing, marketing & management expert is doing (search for Margo under Business & Finance or Media & Marketing or using her name in a keyword search):
"STRIVING WITH ALL MY RESOURCES - INCLUDING PUTTING PERSONAL FORTUNE ON THE LINE - TO REVIVE THE FORTUNES OF MY HOME TOWN WHICH HAS SUFFERED BECAUSE OF THE DECLINE IN THE COTTON AND MANUFACTURING TRADES - AND THE FACT THAT WE HAVE A HUGE IMIGRANT POPULATION THAT WE DESPRATELY NEED TO INTERGRATE WITH.
I AM ALSO ENDEAVOURING TO STOP OUR COUNCIL ABANDONING THE THREE DAY MARKET. IT'S THEIR INTENTION TO AMALGAMATE WITH THE SHOPPING PRECINT AND MAKE ALL STALL HOLDERS GO LEGIT IN THE MALL."
Freemasons to Facebook: the power of networking - Wednesday Aug 13
It's not what you know, it's who you know. Networking is part of the fabric of society ...
Freemasons, old school ties, US Fraternities, Facebook, MySpace, ecademy BNI, Business Link, etc. Networking is used in politics and in the workplace. We use our network of contacts to make friends, find jobs, get advice, etc. Is there a show in there somewhere?

The Spare Room - Friday Aug 8
Most of us have one. A room we don't do anything with which becomes a dumping ground. Can we increase the value of our properties by doing something with it?
This is the room you can have a bit of fun and be creative with.

Personal Finance on the Streets - Friday Jul 11
How about getting financial advisors out on the streets of Britain - a la Street Doctors?
In short, a team of 3 finance people take to the streets and give expert advice to help get you through the credit crunch.
Bartering's Back - Friday Jul 11
Let's teach people how to swap services and goods - and help beat the credit crunch.
This is probably more of an item within a consumer/credit crunch show than a programme itself, but it's something we could all learn how to do.
WWII Code Breakers - Monday Jun 30
Jerry Roberts, a former British code-breaker, thinks the cracking of the German code system Tunny is a story that should be told...
According to a feature in July issue of the BBC History Magazine, the cracking of Tunny is a story packed with drama. If the code hadn't been cracked, the war could have gone on for much longer with a 'much greater loss of life'. Yet the key figures at Bletchley Park have received 'scant reward' or recognition. Jerry Roberts wants to change this and try and get justice for cryptographer Bill Tutte, engineeer Tommy Flowers (who built Colossus) and Alan Turing.
Who Gets the Dog? - Wednesday Jun 25
Dogs and divorce. A large percentage of re-homed dogs are dogs of divorced or separated couples.
Assuming there aren't children involved, once the CDs have been shared out the big question is: who gets the dog. The dog is an integral 'member' of the family and having to give it up is traumatic for everyone involved - especially the dog. Dog trainer Carolyn Menteith has plenty to say on the subject.
The perfect (dog) match - Wednesday Jun 25
Choosing a dog is like choosing a partner. You're going to have it for life so you've got to be compatible.
In the same way that a lot of people choose the wrong partner - and regret it - a lot of people choose the wrong dog - and regret it. Is there a show in choosing the right pet for you? You might think you want a dog - when actually what you need is a goldfish...
Street Dogs vs Pampered Pooches - Wednesday Jun 25
Are street dogs - the dogs of the homeless people on the street - happier than pampered pooches?
What would happen if you compared one of Paris Hilton's pampered pooches with a homeless person's street dog? Which dog is happier? The street dogs get regular exercise and have devoted owners who give them unconditional love and affection 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Can the same be said of the pampered pooches? Dog trainer Carolyn Menteith has plenty to say about this.
Laughter's the Best Medicine - Monday Jun 16
A cultural, historical and scientific look at laughter ...
Laughter boosts are immune systems and makes us feel good. We examine the science behind that and find out what makes people laugh around the world (in remote tribes, in different countries), how laughter is used to deal with tragedy (look at all the jokes that come up after big disasters: 9/11, etc) and how laughter has been used through the years - from court jesters to comedians. Check out NHS Laughter Clinic and Yoga Laughter.
Signature Dishes - Monday Jun 16
Top chefs from around the country or world show us how to make their signature dishes ...
A very simple, 'modular' format. Hundreds of signature dishes are filmed and edited as a stand alone VTs. A selection of VTs (could be all fish, all meat, vegetarian, topical - ie Christmas, etc) are then stitched together around a narrative backbone.
Someone's got to do it - Monday Jun 16
From 'Spa of Embarrassing Illnesses' to 'HQ of weird & disgusting jobs'. For starters, the woman who has to smell used tampons (I kid you not) ...
... to make sure that they really do 'keep you fresh all day' (or whatever the strapline is.)

Britain's Got Experts - Sunday Jun 15
It's the x-pert factor. A broadcaster launches a televised show for a new expert. The prize is a TV series...
Hundreds of experts, the broadcaster's panel of judges (commissioning editors, etc) and 5 mentors (5 development producers, creative directors, etc from different production companies). 1. Experts showcase their expertise and get whittled down. 2. Mentors help them brainstorm programme ideas and make minute taster tapes/mini pilots. 3. The viewers decide which expert and programme they want to see more of.
The Art of Food - Thursday May 22
Some chefs create dishes that are practically a work of art on a plate ...
The layout, the colours and the textures stir our visual senses before they hit our tastebuds. It's pure art. Is there a show which combines chefs and artists? Could artists help chefs who aren't very good at presentation improve the look of their dishes? Plus call in the scientists and psychologists to find out why presentation is so important.
Hurricane Hunters - Thursday May 22
Team up with the crew of the 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron, known as the Hurricane Hunters ...
and fly into the tropical cyclones in the North Atlantic Ocean and Northeastern Pacific Ocean with them to measure weather data in and around those storms.
Ok, it's a bit of a long shot. But the footage would be amazing.
FYI: The National Hurricane Center is supported by specially modified and equipped aircraft of the U.S. Air Force Reserve (AFRES) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Aircraft Operations Center (NOAA/AOC). AFRES' 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron, known as the "Hurricane Hunters" is based at Keesler Air Force Base near Biloxi, Mississippi. The unit flies the Lockheed WC-130 "Hercules," a four-engine turboprop aircraft which carries a crew of six people and can stay aloft for up to fourteen hours.
The Stelios Disabled Entrepreneur Award - Wednesday May 21
Inspiring people - and a larger than life personality to boot!
As someone said recently, The Apprentice's Margaret Mountford is a rare thing on TV ...
an older woman with white hair. And a formidable one too! Just thought I'd let you know that she's doing a PhD in Papyrology, the study of ancient manuscripts. Assuming she's got spare time in her schedule there's definitely a show crying out for her.
Never Say Never - Tuesday May 20
People who have done amazing things, defeated the odds, smashed through stereotypes, etc.
For example: from couch potato to body builder. Amazing transformations in the over 60s generation, proving that age doesn't matter - unless you're a cheese. Physique specialist Tim Bean (search under Health & Fitness or keywords: tim, bean or physique) has had some amazing results. One man, 62, lost nearly 2 stone on Tim's IoPM Physique Challenge programme after falling off a garage roof and fracturing vertebrae. He now competes regularly in National Physique and body-building contests.
Then there's Amar Latif, a blind businessman determined to show people the world. He set up Traveleyes as the first commercial tour operator to specialise in holidays for the visually impaired. (Winner of the first ever Stelio Disabled Award: http://blog.easy.com/?p=177 )
Village People & Village Power - Tuesday May 20
A village takes a stand on an issue (in a 'not on my watch' kind of way) and brings about real change.
For example, a village could try and get all the local supermarkets to install bins where customers can place their plastic bags for recyling but, more importantly, where customers can pick up bags to use for their shopping. Because let's be realistic. None of us are going to have a 'bag for life' on us when we need it.
Or follow someone like Margo Carmichael-Grimshaw who is trying to make a difference (search for Margo under Business & Finance or Media & Marketing or using her name in a keyword search):
The Art Patrons - Monday May 12
The art world's equivalent of Dragon's Den. Artists present their art to experts, who decide whether to taken them on and display their work in galleries, museums, etc.
Think Charles Saatchi's purchase of former stripper Stella Vine's painting of Princess Diana with blood dribbling from her mouth in 2004. The Patrons might be buying art for their gallery or they might be buying the art from a new or up-and-coming artist as an investment (for ultra affluent individuals wishing to diversify risk in a portfolio).
Chant's a fine thing - Thursday May 8
Universal Music wants to sign monks to record an album of medieval chanting and are looking for men & women with the robe-factor.
According to an article in the Metro in Feb, Universal Music has placed adverts in religious publications for men & women of the cloth willing to be recorded. Surely that would make good TV. Especially since the 'chanting revival' is down to something as far removed from religion and spirituality as possible: the Xbox space-age computer game Halo, which has sold more than 16million copies worldwide and has Georgian chants as its soundtrack.
From Icetruckers to Bull Riders - Thursday May 8
Bull riding has swept the US. Could it sweep the UK too?
Angry, bucking, one-ton bulls - and the longest 8 seconds of any bull rider's life. Yes, the bulls are back in town. The Professional Bull Riding Championships are held each year in Las Vegas, Nevada and for seven days America's city of sin becomes cowboy country. It's a $46m business - with over 100m people tuning in to watch it on TV each year. The bulls are ferocious, the riders are 'real men' and the whole thing is addictive. www.pbrnow.com/worldfinals
The Plant Hunters - Thursday May 8
We follow the intrepid horticulturalists in search of the world's rarest species.
I'm working on some of the experts. Stay tuned!
The Battle of the Tastebuds - Sunday Apr 27
Food critics, chefs and punters put restaurant food to the test - blind folded.
We find out from a tastebud expert (I'm sure I can find one) the science of 'taste'. How do our tastebuds work? What gives a restaurant critic the 'power' to judge food - and make or break a restaurant in the process. And what's more important to a restaurant owner - the verdict from the chef, the critic or the punter?
It's a Question of Food - Monday Mar 17
Quiz show about food (history of food, culinary milestones, culinary disasters, cultural differences, ingredients, etc) plus tasting challenge.
Like a Question of Sport with chefs heading up teams, questions about food, etc. In addition, each chef prepares a 'classic' dish in the studio. Team members do a blind tasting. If they vote for their chef's dish they get extra bonus points.
Grand Designs of Nature - Saturday Mar 15
Wasp nests, bee hives, ant nests, termite hills, etc.
I'm still trying to convince a chimp expert who specialises in the architecture of chimp nests to come onto the site!
If tomorrow never comes - Thursday Mar 13
Terminally ill people like the Jane Tomlinson's of this world, do the things they've always dreamed of.
There are endless books about places to see before you die, things to do before you die, walks to go on before you die, etc. We find people who are terminally ill - like the Jane Tomlinson's of this world - and get them to do what they've always dreamed of: visit a certain country; overcome one of their fears; make amends with someone they fell out with years ago; etc. In the process we find out about their illness and what preparations they're making for their death (wills, funeral arrangements, etc). Travel, adventure, raw human emotions, medicine, health & death all in one show. A slice of life.
The Willow Foundation charity arranges days out for young adults aged 16-40 with life-threatening illnesses. It was set up by former Arsenal goalkeeper and TV presenter Bob Wilson and his wife, Megs, in memory of their daughter Anna who died of cancer aged 31: www.willowfoundation.org.uk.
Miracles - Saturday Mar 8
The book 'The Secret' is transforming lives.
It would be great if there was more room in the schedules for uplifting programmes about people who are changing their lives around - financially, professionally or emotionally. Hook up with life coaches, motivational speakers and people who have overcome challenges and transformed their lives.
The first Spag Bol - Sunday Mar 2
The 'Who Do you Think You Are' of food.
Let's track down the origins of classic dishes with archives, history books and food historians: spag bol, shepherd's pie, etc. It's food, travel & history in one. The perfect combination of ingredients.
